Reasoning Biases in Language Models

Ishita Dasgupta

Abstract:

While two systems of reasoning have been a useful abstraction, emergent reasoning (in humans and LLMs) seems to be more intertwined. I'll start by presenting some work highlighting the challenges of interpreting emergent reasoning as two distinct systems and present a few directions for unifying the systems -- focusing on using soft supervision signals from system 2 sources, toward improving traditionally system 1 agents.
