POSITION SUMMARY - IT Coder

We are a small team that partners with the machine learning community to organize and plan academic conferences. We host about 40,000 people annually on our Django platform. You will join a distributed team that contributes to both developing the platform and running the conferences.

Traditionally, physical conferences have been held around the world in places like Vancouver, New Orleans, Montreal, Sydney, and Vienna. During the pandemic, the conferences have become virtual, but will eventually become hybrid using both physical and virtual sites. You should be able to travel a few times a year for the week-long conferences.

LOCATION

You will work most of the time from your home.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and execute software changes to existing Django virtual conference platform
  • Managing the database of events, sponsors, registrations, and schedules
  • Creating new or supporting existing web-based workflows and 3rd party integrations such as RocketChat, Topia, Gather.Town, and streaming video services
  • Support open source code including code review, unit testing, and documentation
  • Contributing to and maintaining the front-end code in Javascript and HTML

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science or equivalent experience
  • Experience with Python and a web framework such as Django
  • Familiar with JavaScript / HTML
  • Experience with Git, Linux / Unix / MacOS
  • Experience with event planning and organizing
  • Strong communication skills
  • Self-starter

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of Machine Learning
  • Familiarity with rest frameworks
  • Postgres or other RDBMS
  • Docker, Kubernetes

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with diverse groups across time zones
  • Demonstrated skill in maintaining working relationships with personnel at all levels
  • Demonstrated ability to manage spiky workloads and deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • English preferred
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
