Invited Talk #1 by Ben Y. Zhao: Challenges Facing Generative AI Users

Generative AI tools can produce large quantifies of multimodal content with low effort. But the same low cost, high volume premise that “democratizes” content is the same mechanism that limits the appeal and usability of AI-generated content. In this talk, I will discuss several key technical challenges that need to be addressed for generative content to be legitimized or adopted alongside human creative content. Finally, I will describe some of our recent findings on AI slop in the music industry, and what steps must be taken before AI slop overwhelms legitimate musicians, including both human musicians and those using AI tools.
