ICML Doubles Financial Support for OpenReview
The International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML) is pleased to announce that we are doubling our annual contribution to OpenReview, increasing our support from \$100,000 to \$200,000.
This decision reflects both our deep commitment to the machine learning research community and the clear need for stronger investment in the infrastructure that underpins scientific exchange in our field.
The machine learning and artificial intelligence communities rely fundamentally on OpenReview for peer review, scientific exchange, and collaboration. The recent exploit attacks that OpenReview suffered in late November starkly demonstrated how critical this infrastructure has become—and how vulnerable it remains without adequate resources and support.
These attacks, however, represent just one example of the many challenges that our community’s infrastructure faces. From scaling to meet growing demand to maintaining security and reliability, these systems require sustained attention and investment.
It is incumbent upon all of us who benefit from this infrastructure, and from the groundbreaking work it enables, to come together in supporting and strengthening it. The advances our community creates have profound implications for the world, and that work depends on robust, well-maintained platforms for collaboration and peer review.
We encourage other organizations and conferences in our community to join us in supporting OpenReview and the critical infrastructure that makes our collective work possible.

To Our Reviewers: ICML 2026 Community Standards and Support Statement
The recent OpenReview exploit attack has made clear the importance of how we treat each other as individuals and as a community. As we begin recruiting reviewers for ICML 2026, the organizers and board want to reaffirm our commitment to fostering a respectful and collaborative field.
The International Conference on Machine Learning exists to advance scientific exchange and knowledge. This requires kindness, patience, respect, and integrity.
Harassment, threatening behavior, and misuse of information will not be tolerated. These actions violate our Code of Conduct. We encourage all community members who experience or witness such conduct to report it promptly so it can be investigated properly.
Academic integrity is paramount to the ICML community. Any actions that undermine the integrity of the peer-review process, including collusion, bribery, misrepresentation, and creation of fake identities will not be tolerated. We will share our updated policy for the Ethical Conduct of Peer-review with the community soon.
In support of the vital work done around reviewing, we are pleased to announce two initiatives:
First, in order to better incentivize high-quality reviewing, we are substantially increasing the number of reviewers who will receive free conference registration in recognition of their excellent reviews. Second, in order to provide the resources needed to build and verify our critical software infrastructure, we are doubling our financial donation to OpenReview to help them grow their staff to a more appropriate size, to fund security audits at a tier higher than they could previously afford, and to sponsor a bug bounty program.
We are deeply grateful to both OpenReview and the members of our community who contribute their time and expertise to the review process. Without the platform to support this work and the dedication of those who actually do it, our field could not function. Your contributions make ICML possible, and we are committed to supporting you in return.
Only by working together with mutual respect can we move our field forward in a meaningful way.
