Excursions during ICML-99

Albatros will organise daily excursions, provided a minimum of six persons. Information at the conference registration desk. Choice and payment on site. Provisional programme:

Sunday, 27 June: Skofja Loka and Idrija (whole day)

Drive to the medieval town of Skofja Loka. Sightseeing of the picturesque town, continuing the tour through the green valleys to Idrija. Visit to the restored mercury mine. Lunch with local specialities at »Kendov dvorec«, a beautifully restored manor. Presentation of bob-lace making. Optional visit to the European award winning museum on the history of local mercury mining. Return to Bled, passing by Logatec on the old caravan road.

Monday, 28 June: Ljubljana (half a day)

Drive to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. Circular visit of Ljubljana. Walking in the old part of the city (the Triple bridge, the City Hall, the French Revolution Square).

Tuesday, 29 June: Vintgar Gorge (half a day)

The Vintgar Gorge is situated to the north-east of Bled. Cut between the precipitous cliffs of Hom and Borst, it is embelished by the clear Radovna River and its numerous waterfalls, pools and rapids. Due to its natural beauty it is one of Slovenias most important tourist attractions.

Wednesday, 30 June: Skocjan Caves and Piran (whole day)

Visit to the Skocjan Caves, a real wonder of the Carst region. The caves are protected as a cultural heritage by UNESCO. Drive to the Slovenian coast, to the old town of Piran with its unforgettable mediterranean atmosphere.
